In 2006, HotHouse Theatre produced a landmark new Australian play called Embers by renowned Australian playwright and former HotHouse Artistic Director, Campion Decent. The work was a verbatim theatre play responding to the community impact from the 2003 bushfires, drawn together from over 75 interviews of regional Victorians conducted by Campion together with Rural Recovery support worker, Les Hume.
Embers was commissioned and produced by HotHouse in co-production with Sydney Theatre Company.
It toured to 29 towns, delivering 82 performances to an audience of 18,934
across Victoria,New SouthWales and Queensland. The work was nationally
awarded, published and continues to be produced across the country.
This is a show that shaped us.
In 2022, we celebrate this landmark achievement with a one-night-only staged reading of the play, a Meet the Artists platform discussion with former HotHouse Artistic Directorate member and Embers playwright, Campion Decent and we unveil our new landmark work –Unprecedented, a companion piece to Embers, co-commissioned by HotHouse and Playwriting Australia, which will premiere
