Built in 1928, The Butter Factory Theatre is the original site of Holdenson & Neilson, an operating dairy set amongst the bushland of Gateway Island on the banks of the Murray River.
In 1997 the building was transformed into a professional theatre venue, and became the performance home of HotHouse Theatre.
Further additions were made in 2004, expanding the foyer space and making the studio space perfect for rehearsals, drama classes and corporate events.
When not in use for productions and events produced and curated by HotHouse Theatre, the Butter Factory Theatre spaces are available for hire.
Conveniently located directly between Albury and Wodonga, the Butter Factory Theatre is graced with rustic charm and character and offers a vibrant, unique and inspiring venue for corporate or community events and conferences, performances, private functions, parties and weddings.
THE
THEATRE
The Theatre is a studio-style black box space with a sprung wooden floor and a permanent raked seating bank able to accommodate up to 162 patrons.
This is a warm and intimate space, with heritage elements including a gable roof and large Oregon trusses.
Entry is by general admission or fixed seating.
THE
STUDIO
The less formal Studio space was added to HotHouse Theatre in 2001.
Built by Hurry & Associates, this space features a sprung floor, natural lighting and small kitchenette, if required.
The Studio is perfect for rehearsals, workshops, regular classes, meetings and private functions.
The theatre’s Foyer is the perfect pre-show and event hub, with its unique charm, relaxed atmosphere and a bar that boasts a fine selection of local premium wines, beers and beverages.
A range of professional catering options are also available upon request.

Box Office & Administration Hours
The Box Office at the Butter Factory Theatre is open 45 minutes prior to each show.
Administration open Monday to Friday 10:00 AM to 3:00 PM
